Hamburger

Today, almost all of people have eaten hamburger. It is one of the most popular foods all over the world. However, I suppose that there are few people who have studied about hamburger in this class. So, I will give you some knowledge of hamburger.

 

The first Hamburger was appeared at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis, Missouri (which also happens to be the birthplace of the ice-cream cone).  It was like a sandwich made by the halves of a bun and a patty. The reason why it was made was that it didn’t need dishes and it was easy to eat.

 

When people want to eat the hamburger, they probably go to a chain of hamburger shop. The style of chain store started in Kansas in 1921. A roadside restaurant run by the Macdonald brothers added hamburgers to the menu in 1948 and it became very popular. After that, the first chain store opened in Chicago, Illinois in 1995. Now, hamburger became a very popular food all over the world.

 

In Japan, the restaurants around a U.S. military base started to make hamburger soon after the war and it became popular among local people. The first hamburger shop opened in 1970 in Haramachida, Tokyo. The next year, hamburger gained popularity because a hamburger shop from foreign country opened in Ginza,Tokyo. A Japanese original hamburger called “Teriyaki burger” was made in 1973 and a lot of Japanese original hamburgers started to be made.

 

There are a lot of McDonald’s restaurants all over the world. However, the menu is different from each country. So, I will introduce some foreign hamburgers of McDonald.

 

The hamburger with three sausages is from Germany. The name is Nurun burger.

Sausage is very popular in German because there are a lot of stands where people can eat sausages. People often eat sausages with mustard on their way home. The combination of sausage and beer is good. The history of sausages are very long. In 17 and 18 century, sausage was very important preserved food because the land wasn’t suitable for cultivation and it was too cold to harvest the crops. Also, sausage can be changed the taste by spices. It was the reason why people could enjoy eating sausages without getting tired of them. These things made sausage popular in German and McDonald’s adopted it as an ingredient.

 

Next, I will explain about my relation with hamburger. When I want to eat hamburger, I always go to the restaurant. I don’t make it myself because the restaurant serves hamburgers which is not only delicious but also low-priced. My favorite restaurant is McDonald’s. Before I entered Aoyama Gakuin University, the image of hamburger was low-priced. It was because I didn’t know another restaurants. However, I found a lot of restaurants where I can eat hamburgers near my university. So, I want to try them.
